Green energy

You can convert to a green supplier or even update your preferences with some suppliers to their renewable energy tariff.  Each unit of electricity used is replaced by the supplier from renewable sources – often supplies guarantee this to be the same rate as other customers.  This means for you – it COSTS NOTHING.

Currenty 2% of electicity produced in the UK is from re-newable resources, government target is for this to reach 10% by 2010.

Wind energy
Is a sustainable resource estimates suggests that there may be enough wind in the UK to power the country 3 or 4 times.  The energy used to manufacture and erect a turbine is paid back in first 3-6 months of operation  a wind turbine lifetime is 30 years.

Solar power
There are 2 main types of solar panels
Solar water heating collectors – these absorb the energy from the sun and transfer it to heat water
Solar electric panels – these transform the solar radiation directly into electricity
