WhatCanIdoHeader

Walking, cycling and public transport
are the most environmentally friendly forms of transport. Buses and trains do tend to get negative press, but there are saver tickets (if you can buy in advance), discount cards for students, pensioners and promotional offers that can significantly reduce the cost of your journey, and often make it cheaper if you are traveling alone than the petrol if you are driving.
However for many this is not practical so there are various ways to improve the impact of your car journeys.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a 'greener' fuel, because it emits fewer harmful emissions than petrol. Cars running on alternative fuels such as LPG are exempt from the Congestion Charge in London, duty is lower and some vehicles receive a reduction in car tax. You can buy a car with factory fitted lpg systems, or can get a lpg system installed, this typically costs between £1500 and £1200.

However in the UK there is currently duty payable on any vegetable oil that you use as fuel. You can also buy bio-diesel from a number of garages, or make it using kits you can purchase. Also be aware of the customs and exercise rules of retaining recipes if you make your own bio-diesel.
